President Macky Sall

4th President of Senegal & Founder and Chair of the Macky Sall Foundation P2D

President Macky Sall is a geological engineer and geophysicist who served as the Prime Minister of Senegal from 2004 to 2007; the President of the Senegalese National Assembly from 2007 to 2008; the Mayor of Fatick from 2009 to 2012; and the President of Senegal from 2012 to 2024. As part of the latter mandate, he served as President-in-Office of the African Union for the period 2022-2023, during which the African Union was successfully admitted as a full member of the G20.

President Macky Sall’s unique public service record encompassed:

• Helping significantly expand Africa’s presence in the international arena by leading the groundwork for the African Union to formally join the G20 alongside the European Union and its 19 other members.
• Championing dialogue as a crucial tool for averting and diffusing conflict, while promoting peace and stability, including through the establishment of a Day of National Dialogue in Senegal to foster ongoing engagement.
• Promoting the reform of Bretton Woods financial institutions to ensure more equitable and accessible financing for sustainable development, including as Envoy of the 4P Pact, to make financial systems more inclusive and fair.
• Advocating for just and fair energy transition by promoting clean and renewable energy, energy access, security, and international cooperation through The Summit for a New Global Financing Pact, COP28 and African Energy Week, among others.
• Driving economic transformation and improved living conditions in Senegal and Africa through actions like the landmark the “Emergent Senegal Plan” and chairing the Steering Committee of the New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD).

With President Sall’s direct commitment and active engagement, MSF-P2D seeks to foster peace and sustainable development across Africa, while promoting harmonious coexistence among cultures and communities. MSF-P2D is poised to play a pivotal role in bringing together regional and global partners, dismantling silos, and fostering constructive solutions to support Africa’s progress.
